Q. I have heard that Goji berries have been referred to as “sex berries”, why is this?
A. Goji Berries were indeed nicknamed the “sex berry” when they were released in the UK a year or so ago. The BBC magazine also referred toÂ
them as a “fruit viagra, cellulite-busting berry”. Evidently celebrities such as Madonna, Liz Hurley and Mischa Barton have been noticed stockingÂ
up on the cute innocent looking little red berries.
These claims however, are not surprising, as in Asia the Goji Berry is revered as one of the premier sexual tonic herbs in all of Asian medicine,Â
and is legendary for helping to spark the passions. The Goji is also regarded as a longevity and strength building food as well as a sexualÂ
potency food. This of course makes perfect sense when you look at the huge nutritional power that the berry contains. The Hunza’s who areÂ
regarded as the world’s longest living people, consume regular daily helpings of Goji.
The credit goes to the Goji’s poly-saccharides. Amongst other things, they are responsible for boosting the body’s production of Human GrowthÂ
Hormone. The benefits of HGH are extensive and include reduction of body fat, better sleep, improved memory, accelerated healing, restoredÂ
libido, and a more youthful appearance. The Goji Berry is literally packed with anti-oxidants. These are the arch enemy of free radicals which areÂ
not only responsible for damaging our cells and causing disease in the body, but for the aging process. Research has shown that Goji can shutÂ
down cell aging in as little as six hours.Â
The Goji also contains Beta-Sitosterol, which is a powerful an anti-inflammatory agent. Beta-Sitosterol can lower cholesterol and has been usedÂ
to treat sexual impotence and prostate enlargement in men. Modern scientific studies have shown that Goji markedly increases testosterone inÂ
the blood, thereby increasing libido in both men and women. Chinese herbalists have long prescribed Goji for infertile couples.
To further demonstrate its powers, there is an ancient Chinese proverb that states: “He who travels one thousand kilometres from home shouldÂ
not eat Goji!”.
