What Is An Authentic Tibetan Goji Berry?

IMPORTANT: What is the difference between Tibetan Goji berries and Wolf berries?
Research has shown that not all Lyciums (a Latin name of the berries family) are created equal. There are over forty different Lycium varieties, the three most potent berries in the Lycium family being the wild Tibetan Goji berries found growing wild in Tibet and Mongolia, next the cultivated Chinese Ningxia Wolf berries and Chinese Xinjiang Wolf berries which all belong to the Lycium genus. The last two are cultivated on huge farms in China that produce hundreds of thousands of tons of Wolf berries each year. The farms are permitted to use several different kinds of ’safe’ pesticides, which can significantly alter the health benefits of these berries. Although much inferrior to the Goji berry, those Wolf berries are marketed and sold as ‘Goji berries’. Most often by network marketing companies…

Wild growing Tibetan Goji BerryTibetan Goji berries are well respected and celebrated within the nomadic tribes and throughout the ancient culture of Tibet and Mongolia. They have been used in traditional folk medicine in Tibet for many thousands of years. In those ancient times Tibet was large and included Mongolia and much of China. Ancient Chinese and Tibetan medical texts highly regarded these berries for their wide range of health benefits, including strengthening the “chi” or life force of the body.Â
There are many reports documenting the aged but still youthful looking Tibetan people who consumed this fruit on a regular basis. Apparently they lived a life free of common diseases like arthritis, cancer and diabetes. Moreover, their life expectancy often reached well over 100 years. In ancient China the Lycium from ‘the roof of the world’ Tibet, was sought after as the best of all Lyciums, and was even referred to as the Mother of all Lyciums. The Chinese over many centuries brought and planted their cultivars from Tibet. Their fruit is now called wolf berry, and is widely cultivated rather then grown wild, like the Tibetan variety is.

The Tibetan Himalayas experience some of the most harsh and extreme climatic conditions on earth. January temperatures fall below -40C and summer days often rise to 30C. The thin atmosphere at over 4000 meters (one third less oxygen than at sea level) and long sunny days, result in a very high level of solar energy. To survive and thrive in these harsh conditions, the Goji Berry has developed some unique characteristics and properties.
The soil of the Himalayas is also very rich in minerals, and the Tibetan Goji berry contains 21 trace minerals, including manganese, zinc, iron, copper, nickel, chromium, magnesium, calcium, kalium, cobalt, selenium, cadmium, phosphorus and germanium.
The Tibetan Goji berry is also rich in antioxidants that can protect skin and cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. It contains 18 amino acids, fatty acids, more Beta Carotene than carrots, and 500 times more Vitamin C by weight than oranges! It also contains Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E.
The Tibetan Goji Berry contains numerous polysaccharides, including several not previously identified, which have been named Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharides (LBP’s). These LBP’s represent a key element in the benefits attributed to Goji Berries.
The important thing is that you now know the difference so as not to be fooled. The Authentic Tibetan Goji Berry is pure and grown in ancient soils in remote valleys untouched by any pollutants or pesticides. Its rich antioxidant qualities and phytonutrient energy make this berry easy to like… and it tastes great, too!
